History of the Chilean Wine Fair

In early April, as spring starts to warm the northern hemisphere, look to the south and see that the summer there is coming to an end. Travel all the way south to Chile, where the grape harvest is in and the wine festivals are beginning. Chile, a forward-thinking South American country, is home to a people inspired by their ancient cultures, their beautiful mountains, their dry deserts and temperate growing climate. With this diverse climate, Chile is famous for their plentiful variety of grapes, which they use to make many of the finest wines in the world.
Pirque wine festival
Since the Spanish came to Chile in the 16th century, the country has enjoyed a passionate and unrestrained talent in wine making. With a worldwide reputation for some of the best wines, this art is celebrated with the traditional wine festivals held in the different wine growing regions around Santiago. Organized by the Chile Chamber of Commerce, the Pirque wine festival started in 2003 and is now a yearly tradition; they are planning to host over 20,000 people this year.
Wine and cheese festival
Another festival is hosted by FAREXPO, a well-known famous coordinator partnered with the European Commission, who also host Chiile's Oktoberfest. This April event is known as the Festival of Wine and Cheese and is held at the Events Center Malloco in the community of Penaflor. Full of folklore and tradition, it provides a opportunity to taste the finest wines and cheeses in the area made organically without pesticides or antibiotics.
Festival of Vendimia
Do not miss the wine festival of Vendimia. During this festival, the history of traditional wine-making is reenacted through dance, showing the crushing of the grapes, the Dance of 1,000 Handkerchiefs, and folkloric melodies from the region dating back hundreds of years.
Join the thousands of people that meet every year to celebrate the harvest, share the traditions, and sample the wonderful wines and cheeses commemorated with the people of Chile.
