Santiago's International Short Film Festival

Santiago's International Short Film Festival takes place in May every year. Highly regarded by many cinephiles as one of the premiere festivals in Chile, it is a festival where you can see the hard work that these talented filmmakers accomplished in a short time.

How it began

The festival began in 2004 as a celebration of short film as an art form. Since then, it has continued its mission to promote the art of the short film and, in particular, Spanish-language short films. There are several short film festivals that take place around the world, such as those in Venice and Cannes, but the International Short Film Festival is considered one of the more prestigious. Since its inception, this festival has prided itself on emphasizing the importance of experimentation and innovation in short film.

The competition

This film festival does have a competition, with several winners in different categories each year, culminating with the Premio do Publico, the top prize, which was won by Vicenta de Sam Orti Marti of Spain in 2011. The festival screens films in several categories, including animation, documentary, experimental and fiction; each of these categories has a winner as well as the overall winner.

Branching out

The festival has proven so successful that it has expanded its scope to several year-round events, including scriptwriting events, workshops and round table discussions with leaders in the industry.

Santiago's International Short Film Festival is an innovative, entertaining event that is focused on promoting the art of short film and advancing the boundaries of creativity and experimentation.
